Department of Environmental Engineering
About Department
Welcome to the Department of Environmental Engineering (EE). It was established in March 2025, the Department of Environmental Engineering emerged from the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities, which has been in operation since 2006. Master of Technology (M. Tech.) in Environmental Engineering is offered by the institute since 2007. Admission to this course is granted to students who qualify for the GATE examination, with a limited number of seats available for self-sponsored candidates. In addition to the M. Tech. programme, Ph.D. programme is conducted in environmental engineering since its inception. Faculty members of this department teach environmental sciences across all branches of the B.Tech. courses. The department has developed laboratory facilities to support practical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as experiments for research scholars. Faculty members have contributed significantly to research, with numerous publications in SCI and Scopus-indexed journals. Over the years, they have established research collaborations with various academic institutions, research organisations, and industries both nationally and internationally. They have also secured funding for research projects from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Additionally, the faculty members have conducted national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars to foster academic dialogue and promote innovation in the field. Faculty members actively engage in conferences and symposiums to share their research findings and network with experts in their areas of expertise. Many alumni from the environmental engineering program are now employed by government and private organisations across the country. The department continues to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research and innovation as the field of environmental engineering evolves, equipping students to address the intricate environmental challenges of the future.
Mission
To advance knowledge, research, and solutions that enhance the sustainability of the natural and engineered environments. The department is dedicated to educating and training future leaders in environmental engineering, fostering innovation through interdisciplinary research, and promoting practices that protect public health, safeguard ecosystems, and address the global challenges of climate change and environmental degradation.
Vision
Our goal is to become a globally recognised leader in environmental engineering education and research by developing innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for pressing environmental challenges. The department strives to produce skilled professionals who can drive positive change in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable world for future generations.
Thrust area
The thrust areas of the Department of Environmental Engineering typically encompass the core research and application domains that address both current and future environmental challenges. These areas are designed to focus on solutions that promote sustainability, public health, and the preservation of natural resources. Here are some common thrust areas of the department:
